Welcome to Camp Cherith

Camp Cherith

Camp Cherith is the official camping ministry of Pioneer Clubs. There are 21 Cherith® camps in North America. They all provide a Christ-centered, Bible-based outdoor program designed to help children and youth learn about Jesus Christ and how to make Christ Lord in every aspect of life.

Cherith camps provide a unique setting away from a camper’s normal activities. Camp Cherith is a wonderful environment for teaching Christian values and life-skills, for evangelizing and discipling, and for changing lives. Camp Cherith has proven to be a mountaintop experience for thousands of young people over the past 65-plus years. Cherith is Christian camping at its best!

Where did the name Camp Cherith come from?

Cherith is the name of the brook the Lord sent the prophet Elijah to for spiritual refreshment. While Elijah was there, ravens brought food to him. You can read all about this in 1 Kings 17:1-6.

Today we look at Camp Cherith as a place campers come to learn more about Jesus Christ and have their souls refreshed by the Lord. Counselors at Cherith often take bird names in keeping with the story of the ravens in 1 Kings 17.

What makes Camp Cherith unique?

Pioneer Clubs is committed to the skills and values that are learned during a Christian camping adventure. Camp Cherith is built on the same philosophical foundation as the Pioneer Clubs program.

Campers...

  • study God’s Word and have ample opportunities to discuss what they learn, find Christ, learn more about him, and walk closer with him. The underlying goal is to help campers learn to make Christ Lord in every aspect of life.

  • build relationships with one another, their counselor, and other camp staff. A sense of community is established as campers live together in small cabin groups and relate to others in a variety of small- and large-group activities.

  • have many opportunities to learn new skills, develop natural abilities, try new things, and apply what they learn in a loving, safe and accepting environment. They learn to appreciate the uniqueness of others while gaining an individual sense of worth and purpose.

  • learn to enjoy and be comfortable in the outdoors and better appreciate the world God has provided for us.
All Camp Cherith camps are licensed by Pioneer Clubs and associated with Christian Camp and Conference Association. They are all members of and adhere to the standards of the American Camping Association or Canadian Camping Association.

What happens in a “typical” day at Camp Cherith?

While all of the 21 Camp Cherith camps are unique and have special features, they have many things in common. So, no matter which of our camps you choose, you will find there are certain things you can count on if you are a Cherith camper. Your day would include:

  • Flag Raising — officially launches the camp day
  • Morning Watch — campers spend time alone reading God’s Word and praying
  • Cabin Capers — cabins are cleaned and put in shipshape order ready for inspection
  • Bible Exploration — in cabin groups campers explore the Word and memorize Scripture under the skillful direction of trained counselors
  • Skill Building Activities — campers select activities to do each day where they learn new skills and experience new things. Activities might include swimming, canoeing, sailing, fishing, hiking, archery, nature lore, riflery, campcraft, horseback riding, orienteering, and crafts.
  • Free Time — campers have time to relax with friends, cabin-mates, counselors, and camp staff. Visits to the camp store are made at this time.
  • Three Great Meals — planned by a dietitian, prepared by an experienced cook and served with love three times a day
  • Evening Programs — special evening programs relating to weekly fun themes provide campers with lots of fun and enjoyment.
  • Singing and Campfires — each day ends with a special devotional time and singing around a campfire
  • Cabin Devotions — counselors spend time with their campers each evening in a time of Bible reading and prayer
