Special Events—Sailboat Regatta
Have the children build sailboats from the ready-made kits found in the Pioneer Clubs catalog or online store (item #5771), or make their own from wood blocks (all the same size and shape) with a short dowel mast and a paper sail.

To set up the race, you need two sawhorses or a long table, and two equal lengths of aluminum or plastic rain gutter with the ends closed up. Place the gutters side by side on the table or sawhorses. Then fill the gutters with water. Have two children place their boats in the water, one in each gutter.

At the "go" signal, the children provide the"wind-power" for their sailboats by blowing on the sail. They cannot physically touch the gutter, supports, or boat in any way. First one to the other end wins.

Children continue racing until everyone has had a turn. Each child participating in the Regatta earns a Pioneer Clubs Sail Boat Race award badge (item #7660 in the Pioneer Clubs catalog or online store.)
