Tips and activities to enhance your club meetings

Rock-Solid Heroes
We had our Trailblazer Club decorate "pet rocks” in costumes of Bible heroes, such as Moses. You might wonder how they decorated a rock to have a robe, head covering, and so on--but they did! They used:

• liquid nail
• wiggle eyes
• small pompons
• yarn (for hair)
• colored tissue paper (for head coverings/robes)

It was so great to see the children get really involved in identifying Christ, the solid rock! They know that the Lord Jesus Christ is the rock of our salvation.

Matched Friends
When one of our club members brings a friend for three weeks, they get to design a T-shirt together. Then we have one printed for each of them to wear in club.

Unusual Twists
Add something unusual to regular club meetings simply by announcing a theme ahead of time. No need to plan any extra activities.

  • Popsicle Day. Have club members come dressed in the color of their favorite Popsicle flavor. Serve Popsicles for Snack.
  • Stuffed Animals. Bring your favorite stuffed animal.
  • Inside Out Meeting. Everyone wears clothes inside out.
  • Backward Meeting. Wear clothes backward, say “Goodbye” at the beginning and “Hello” at the end, begin with Closing, end with Opening, and so on.
  • Funny Hats. Let kids borrow or make these.
  • Crazy Hair. Use wigs, wild hairstyles, temporary hair color.
  • Pajama Meeting. Wear pajamas, and bring stuffed animals and pillows.
  • Valentines Day. See how many hearts everyone can wear.
  • Color Day. Choose a color and see how much of it each person can wear.

Forming Teams...Without Tears
To avoid hurt feelings when dividing into groups or teams, use a fun, random method.

  • As each club member arrives, use a colorful marker to write a big number on his or her hand to correspond to the team he or she will be on later. Remember to keep alternating numbers!
  • First have players get in groups by shirt color, birth month, last digit of phone number, number of siblings, or whatever. Then combine groups to form even teams.
  • Number off, but get creative. Instead of “1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3,” try “pizza, taco, burger, pizza, taco, burger.”

The Lord’s Prayer
Help club members learn the Lord’s Prayer.

  • Sing it to music
  • Learn sign language signs
  • Make up a hand or body motion for each phrase. Ideas:

  • Our Father—point up
  • Heaven—look up and sweep arm above head
  • Hallowed/holy—clasp hands as if in prayer
  • Kingdom—make crown over head with hands
  • Will be done—point away from self as if directing someone
  • wwwwww
  • Earth...heaven—stamp foot; then look up and sweep arm above head
  • Give us—point to self
  • Bread—put hand to mouth and “chew”
  • Forgive—bow head as if in sorrow
  •
  • As we forgive—shake hands with someone
  • Temptation—hold palms straight ahead as if to say no
  • Deliver us—put hands on heart; then raise arms up and out as in triumph
  • Kingdom...power...glory—make crown over head with hands; make muscles; hold up arms and spin around

  • All-Club Awards

We bring all our club age-groups together after each unit of meetings for an “award assembly.” All the children receive their awards in front of the whole group. They gain a sense of unity with the larger group and receive greater recognition. This has worked well for our club.
