Beat the Cold with Plans for Camp
7 ideas for promoting camp to your club members and their friends
by Joan “Snowy” Hacquebord
1. Find one person in your church who loves camp. Have him or her contact, in person or by phone, all families with kids.
2. Have one of your adults attend camp as a staff member (counselor, kitchen helper, etc.). Parents are more likely to let their children go to camp if a church member is present. Check with your camp for available positions and staff applications.
3. If your camp has winter weekend events, take kids to them. You can locate your camp’s Web site by going to http://www.pioneerclubs.org/campcherith_locations.htm.

4. To help with finances, let kids’ families set up a “Cherith Account” with the church, into which they can deposit money all year long.
5. Try scholarship dinners after a morning church service, like one Florida church has done. They ask for donations rather than charging a fee. That brings in more money. They raise $600-$800 each time. Sometimes a family has offered to cover all the food expenses.
6. Offer help in coordinating transportation to camp for the kids.
7. Get a video from your camp, and show it in church or at a parent-child camp information meeting.
