Ways to Raise a Buck

Plan a creative and fun project or two to raise funds for club supplies and special events. If the club members can be involved, so much the better—they will feel even more “ownership” of their club. (Check your church’s fundraising policy first.)

  • Photo Shoot. During a club banquet at Bethany Baptist Church, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, an amateur photographer took group pictures of club members and their friends and then ran the film to a one-hour photo shop. By the time dinner was over, the photos, in card stock frames, were ready for purchase.

  • Babysitting Service. Club members at Macedonia Baptist Church, Monroe, North Carolina, babysat for church members.

  • Craft-Making Fair. The clubs at Morningside Friends Church, Port St. Lucie, Florida, invited the whole community to their fair via ads in the newspaper and on radio. Visitors could choose among booths where they could make crafts such as glider planes, wreaths, and rubber-stamp crafts. Visitors bought tickets, which they used to “pay” for their supplies at the booths.

  • Scholarships. New England Camp Cherith sends a letter to camp supporters asking for donations to cover one week at camp. The director matches the donations with children who need financial aid. You could challenge church members to cover a child’s club registration fee, the cost of a special outing, or supplies for club.
