To earn this award, complete and check off each requirement:

1. Discover community needs.
Find out needs in your community.
Find out what kinds of help are needed in your community. Talk with your leader and parents, and check with such people as your pastor, neighbors, community leaders, prison chaplain, social workers, and nursing home and hospital administrators.

3. Help in your community.
Help meet needs of people in your community in two different ways. Choose service projects from those below, or plan your own. Circle the ones you did.

Yard work. Help elderly or handicapped people with their yard work.

Christmas caroling. Go Christmas caroling in a neighborhood or institution that does not usually have it.

Children’s carnival. Organize and conduct a carnival for children in your community.

Visit people. Visit people in a nursing home, prison, shelter for the homeless or abused, or another institution in your community.

Help on a moving day. Help families or individuals in your community with such tasks as packing, carrying, or cleaning on their moving day.

Say thank you. Show appreciation to community service persons such as fire fighters, police officers, crossing guards, city officials, and social workers. Send thank-you letters or sponsor an appreciation dinner for these people.
