PRINT PROMOTION
1. Create a brochure that advertises or promotes something. (do all)
Choose your publishing method. (choose one)
Use desktop publishing.
Design your brochure on paper and get copies made.
Decide the brochure’s purpose and audience.
Subject ideas:
inviting others to club (list the benefits)
a how-to guide (explain one of your skills)
the complete Challenger Guide to...
why I am a Christian
Brainstorm how you want your brochure to look.
How big will it be? Will it fold? Make selections: colors, fonts, images, layout, and so forth.
Write the text and add images.
Be sure to have someone proofread your document when you finish.
Print (or make copies of) your brochure.
Hand it out to the audience you have chosen.
2. Design a business card or “calling” card. (choose one)
Business Card
Design your card to provide information about yourself and the services you provide.
Things you could include:
logo/slogan. A logo is an identifying symbol–a piece of artwork. A slogan is a brief, attention-getting phrase. You can create a logo and slogan to identify yourself or advertise yourself.
your name/title
your address and phone number
your picture
list of jobs you can do
Calling Card
The next time a friend asks for your phone number or e-mail address, just say, “Here’s my card.” Design your cards to be a creative statement of who you are.
Things you could include:
your name
address
e-mail address
phone number
your picture
artwork that shows things that you enjoy and are important to you
3. Design a poster to advertise your club program or a church event.
A successful poster attracts the reader’s interest, summarizes information, and answers the readers’ questions. Ask yourself: What do I want my readers to do after seeing my poster?
Suggestions:
Make a list of your main topic and your sub-topics. Once you have this “content map” of your poster, you can determine where to place each point.
Make the letters large enough to be readable. Make the content easy to follow. (Most people tend to skim a poster.)
Make the layout attractive. Make the images, lines, colors, and words flow together.
If you are planning to use your poster for repeated displays, consider having it laminated with a protective plastic coating.
