To earn this award, complete and check off each requirement:

1. Explore the Internet.
2. Look at Web design on the Internet.
3. Develop your own Web site design.
4. Learn to monitor the Internet.

1. Explore the Internet. (choose one)
Beginner

  • Access a game and play it.
  • Use a search engine.
  • Identify links and try them out.
  • Identify your computer’s browser.

    Intermediate
  • Learn how to set up an e-mail account.
  • Learn how to register a site.
  • Learn how to access a Christian chat room.
  • Find an educational site (Smithsonian Institute, Encyclopedia Britannica, etc.) that will help you with homework or a hobby.

    Advanced
  • Learn HTML, the language of the Web, and how to do tags for texts, graphics, and links.
  • Create a simple home page (after doing requirement 3).

    2. Look at Web design on the Internet.
    Look at two or three different Internet sites.
    Compare the different approaches to design and how well you think the text and graphics work well together. Use as many links as time permits to see how the sites work. What suggestions would you have for the designers?

  • 3. Develop your own Web site design. (do all)
    Decide the purpose of your own Web site.
    Consider the following questions:
  • Who will use it?
  • What would they want to see?
  • What do you want to show?
  • What elements are necessary for you to fulfill your purpose?


  • Decide what you want on your home page and what links you need.
    Consider the following questions:

  • Are the text and graphics balanced?
  • Is there an orderly arrangement of words and images?

    Sketch your Web site.
    Draw your home page and linked pages on paper. Use a separate page for each link.

    4. Learn to monitor the Internet.
    Read Philippians 4:8.
    What does Paul say about a person’s thought life? With your club or family, discuss some steps you can take to make sure that what you see on the Internet fits those criteria.

    Create a Pioneer Clubs page for your church Web site.
    Help someone learn to use the Internet.
