Welcome!

Training Makes It Happen

It's September and that can mean only one thing for my schedule. I'll be on the road for part of the month meeting people like yourself who serve as club coordinators or leaders for the Pioneer Clubs ministry at your church. I really look forward to this opportunity to get "into the trenches" with you. During my visits to churches, it's an honor to hear your stories and ideas. It's a joy to share in the enthusiasm and passion you have for children's ministry.

This year, as in years past, I'll return with a perspective that only comes from talking with those who invest in the lives of children each week. And ultimately this one-on-one time helps Pioneer Clubs become an even better ministry. The path from your ideas and needs to implementation is considerably shortened. The training workshops I'll lead help us help you.

If you're new to Pioneer Clubs, or if this is your fifth year, or even tenth, I encourage you to participate in training. On-site workshops are only one way to get training. You can also go to www.pioneerclubs.org for online training, participate in a teleconference or use resources such as the Leader Training Outlines book to conduct your own training. Training helps you best meet the needs of the children God has given you as you help them learn how to make Christ Lord in every aspect of life.

Blessings!

Just for Coordinators

Ready, set, go! That sums up September for most club coordinators and leaders. Hopefully, your planning is paying off and everything is falling into place. It's time to focus on club promotion and the finer details of starting your club year off on the right foot. Here are some time-tested ideas to consider.
  • Conduct leader training or encourage leaders to work through the Basic Training session on the Pioneer Clubs website. Click here for complete details on the various training options.
  • Announce club in Sunday school classes and during announcement time before services.
  • Inform parents of club goals...

Cross Sewing Project

"I'm the children's director at Primera Iglesia Bautista de Reseda in Reseda, California," writes children's ministry director Xiomara Bueno. "We started Pioneer Clubs three years ago and at the end of our second year we had over 90 kids on our rosters. The Lord has truly blessed our club with children from both English and Hispanic congregations.  Our club is run in English on Wednesday nights by volunteers from both congregations. We are truly excited to start our third year."

It Worked at Our Club

The activities coordinator at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church in Wheaton, Illinois came up with a simple, no-needle sewing project for the sewing activity award. She used card stock and cut out two crosses per sheet. Then the club members learned the whipstitch. Using 55 inches of ribbon, the club members "sewed" their crosses in an evening. A variation would be to use a square shape. Have club members write out their memory verse on the shape and then whipstitch the sides, giving them an easy-to-hang reminder for memory work.

If you have ideas worth sharing with other leaders and coordinators, please send them to Louise Ferrebee at lferrebee@pioneerclubs.org.

Pumpkin Party

Preparation

Make a pumpkin-shaped piñata: Thinly cover a large balloon with papier-mâché, leaving a small circle unwrapped at the top. After it dries, break and remove the balloon. Decorate with orange crepe paper and a pumpkin face. Fill the cavity with wrapped candy.

Classic Games

Stepping Stone Relay
kids playing a gameDivide teams into pairs. Give each pair three sheets of newspaper "stepping stones." One partner places the stepping stones for the other, bringing the third sheet from behind each time and setting it ahead of the runner. After they reach the goal, they switch, and the other partner places stepping stones for the first. When they return
to their team, they tag the next pair.
