1. 5 P’s of an Effective Club
    1. Prayer – Each child and family needs to be remembered regularly in prayer.
    2. Planning – Your planbook, activity book, and supplementary materials need careful study. My advice – go by the book! Use the activities, games, and Bible stories as they are presented. Remember, a well-planned club meeting goes a long way to averting discipline problems.
    3. Place – Your club room needs to be attractive and functional. Organize furniture appropriately. Liven the room with color.
    4. Participation – Skippers and Scooters love to volunteer. Let them help during the Bible Story, Snack, Songs, and Table Activities. Encourage positive behavior by letting children be line leaders or table helpers.
    5. Parent Involvement – Keep parents informed and involved with your club. Ask them to help with field trips, parties, snacks, and so on.
  2. Enthusiasm
    1. Remember the key attitude in working with children – enthusiasm! Children know quickly if you are there by choice or not. Smile. Be enthusiastic. Show the joy of Jesus by your attitude.
  3. Arrive Early
    1. A good rule of thumb is to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the first child. As children trickle in, get them to help you set up the materials and club room. Remember, children love to help.
  4. Recruit Sufficient Leaders
    1. With all the hands-on work done in Skippers and Scooters, we have found that a ratio of one adult leader or teen helper to three children is good.
  5. Good Eye Contact
    1. Arrange your club room so you can see each child. When children talk, look at them. When you talk, have them look at you.
  6. Behavior Guidelines
    1. Establish club behavior guidelines at the first meeting. Since Skippers and Scooters cannot read yet, you will have to tell these guidelines to them. You can also try a poster with simple pictures. Reinforce guidelines with appropriate action if they are violated.
  7. Keep Children Busy and Moving
    1. Most children this age are kinesthetic (hands-on) learners. They learn best by doing or experiencing the Bible truth in the lesson. Use the finger-plays, Games, Opening Activities, and role plays in your planbook.
    2. Also remember that children this age love to play. If you have access to playground, park, or enclosed area, use it.
